چکیده

Most successful Bayesian network (BN) ap plications to date have been built through knowledge elicitation from experts. This is difficult and time consuming, which has lead to recent interest in automated methods for learning BNs from data. We present a case study in the construction of a BN in an intel ligent tutoring application, specifically dec imal misconceptions. We describe the BN construction using expert elicitation and then investigate how certain existing automated knowledge discovery methods might support the BN knowledge engineering process.

Cluster Based Cross Layer Intelligent Service Discovery for Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks

The ability to discover services in Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is a major prerequisite. Cluster basedcross layer intelligent service discovery for MANET (CBISD) is cluster based architecture, caching ofsemantic details of services and intelligent forwarding using network layer mechanisms. The cluster basedarchitecture using semantic knowledge provides scalability and accuracy. Also, the mini...

Towards New Learning Strategies in Intelligent Tutoring Systems

Various co-operative tutoring systems have been recently proposed as a continuation of intelligent tutoring systems. They encourage learning as a jointly constructed knowledge rather than a transfer of expertise from the teacher to the learner. These environments can be strengthened using elicitation techniques which encourage the acquisition process from a learner point of view. In this articl...

DNA - Uncorking the Bottleneck in Knowledge Elicitation and Organization

There are two main purposes of this paper. First, we describe a novel cognitive tool that was designed to aid in knowledge elicitation and organization for instructional purposes – specifically to be used for intelligent tutoring system development. This automated approach to knowledge elicitation is embodied in a program called DNA (Decompose, Network, Assess). Our aim for this tool is to incr...

Docs 'n drugs-the virtual polyclinic: an intelligent tutoring system for web-based and case-oriented training in medicine

Since the beginning of the year 2000 medical students of the University of Ulm are working in their curriculum with the web-based and case-oriented tutoring system "Docs 'n Drugs - The Virtual Polyclinic". The system consists of different subsystems and services. One subsystem is the Training System. It is based on three models: the Tutoring Process Model, the Case Knowledge Model and the Medic...

Exploratory Test of an Automated Knowledge Elicitation and Organization Tool

This paper combines the contents of two papers that were presented at the ITS ’98 conference—one focusing on knowledge representation (Shute, 1998) and the other describing a knowledge elicitation tool (Shute, Torreano, & Willis, 1998). There are three main purposes of this paper. First, as a means to stress instructional and assessment implications of different knowledge types, we will briefly...
